For this riff you will need to apply muting techniques to cut some of the notes short. Generally speaking, when you use your fretting hand to mute the strings it is called fret hand muting and when you use your right hand it is called palm muting. In this riff we will use both muting tecniques. However, it is important to note that the muting will be done AFTER the pluck not during so that the notes ring out normally.
