This riff involves a lot of octave chords, selective muting, and some light palm muting. If you find the octave chords too difficult then play the riff just using the bass notes on the A-string. If you do this then make sure you use your 1st finger to fret them, that way it is easy to make the advancement from bass notes to octave chords.
