This riff is suitable for beginners, especially those interested in heavy metal. It is played entirely using downstrokes and makes use of a technique called palm muting. The hardest part will be using your 4th finger (pinkie) to reach the 7th fret on the E-string as many guitarists neglect practising with this finger. Watch the video and see how the 4th finger stays put throughout the second half of the riff. Also, make sure this finger does not accidentally mute the 5th string.
